KSEA Letters January 2021

Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association Newsletters

January 2021

Dear KSEA members,

I hope all of you are safe and healthy. The year 2020, with its many events, has now become history. I believe the year 2021 will be much better in many ways; I wish all KSEA members the very best of luck and prosperity in this new year.

As you know, UKC 2020 was held successfully on Dec. 14-17, 2020. I am so grateful that all the presentations and events went well, not only virtually, but also in-person at the Korean venue. There were some obstacles faced in the initial execution of the in-person events at the Korean venue due to the sudden increase in cases of Covid-19 in Korea. However, the University Leadership Forum and the S&T Diplomacy Forum were held as scheduled and were, thankfully, well received by both online and in-person attendees.

I would also like to express my sincere appreciation towards the UKC organizing committee members and volunteers. Yes, UKC 2020 was an unprecedented event having been delayed from August to December with the changed format of a virtual conference. However, UKC 2020 was also a memorable event, not only due to the rich content within the conference, but also because of the resiliency of the preparation team. It clearly attests to the capability and foresight with which KSEA members and leadership operate, even when responding to completely unforeseen circumstances. After all, we are scientists and engineers who should strive to lead the community and society by example.

We now look forward to the year of vaccination in 2021. We must work together to overcome the pandemic by following rules and observing social norms. As we will continue to have more time to spend at home with family for a while, I hope we can use this precious time to show love towards one another within family and society.

Sincerely,
Soolyeon Cho
President of KSEA
