UC Davis Fall Quarter Welcome Back Meeting (via Zoom)

This year, KSEA-SVC President Steve Lee reached out to UCD KGSA President Yunju Chang. Ms. Chang started to recruit KSEA members. When the Fall Quarter started, we had about 30 graduate student KSEA members. Congratulations to MS Chang and the KGSA officers for recruiting so many KSEA members in only a little over a month. For a while, the Sacramento Chapter had the most paid members among KSEA chapters.

The meeting on Oct 3, 2020 was held via ZOOM, hosted by Yunju Chang. At the beginning of the meeting, she introduced Chapter President (CP) Steve Lee. Mr. Lee talked about the history of KSEA and the Sacramento Chapter. He also pointed to the website www.ksea.org and KSEA’s vision and mission. CP Lee also mentioned the various KSEA events including UKC and NMSC. KSEA-SVC has participated in the UKC and NMSC every year since 2007 and graduate and undergraduate students have been involved every year. KSEA-SVC also participated in the NWRC (NorthWest Regional Conference) every year since 2007. CP Lee also mentioned KSEA and KUSCO graduate student scholarships are given out every year. The applications are usually due in March. Over the years, UC Davis has had many graduate student scholarship winners. 

Then the students played games and the winners received gift cards. The online games were not only fun but allowed students to interact with each other. During normal circumstances, we would have a nice dinner and get to know each other. KGSA leaders, Vice President Hyun Jung Kim and Treasurer Jeonghoon Kim also played key roles during the online meeting. Mr. Jeonghoon Kim was the MC and made the games fun and exciting.

About a week after this meeting, CP Steve Lee gave Ms. Chang, KSEA T-shirts and 16oz. hand sanitizers as a token of appreciation to every UC Davis KSEA graduate student member.

The event was great in that it enabled us to continue our Fall Quarter welcome back tradition and stay in touch with our graduate students. UC Davis KGSA and KSEA-SVC have built a special bond over the years. We can see this because many graduate students have joined KSEA and continue to keep their membership. We will continue to have web meetings as much as possible. However, we really hope for an end soon to this pandemic so that we can meet face to face and yes, back to normal life.
