The 2020 KSEA National Math Competition (NMC), which was originally scheduled in April 2020 and postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, was rescheduled and held on December 12th and 13th, 2020. The 2020 KSEA NMC was originally planned to take place on December 5th as a real time online exam with online proctors. In the North Texas chapter, eight officers prepared for proctoring with prior simulation and training. However, the online exam was suspended due to network issues. KSEA HQ and all chapters worked together to hold an asynchronous exam on December 12th and 13th.
The North Texas chapter participated in this national event to provide an educational opportunity to local students. Texas Instruments Incorporated sponsored the chapter for the event. The North Texas chapter also may not have been able to hold the competition event without the special financial support from the KSEA Vice President, Dr. An. To mitigate the concerns about COVID spreading during the exam, the exam was reformatted as an online exam. In spite of the big change from being an onsite to an online event in 2020 and the limited time for advertisement, 66 students participated in the competition.
The online awards ceremonies were held one week after the exam. In the NMC awards ceremony hosted by the KSEA HQ, Dr. Changhan Lee at Northwestern University gave an educational talk about probability for the students. Information about the KSEA drone camp in 2021 was also provided. After the HQ award ceremony, the North Texas chapter also had a local online award ceremony. During the ceremony, the Korean Consul in Dallas, Mr. Bumguen Cho, and Dr. Sunwhan Jang from Texas Instruments gave congratulatory speeches. Students in the first, second, and third ranks for each grade were announced. The certificates of awards and gift cards were given to the awardees. The North Texas chapter also awarded the three-year participation award. This award goes to the students who are participating in the KSEA NMC for the third consecutive year. This year, 20 students were awarded the three-year participation award. In the ceremony, many students received gifts in the raffle event.
