Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association Newsletters

October 2021

Dear fellow KSEA members:

I am very happy to see that the very first bi-monthly e-newsletter of the 50th Administration is released today! I wanted to bring to your attention two items.

The first item is to assure equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in our community. I have formed an EDI Task Force that has already started working on understanding the challenges we have and proposing action items to improve EDI. In an effort to ensure EDI, the 50th Administration adopted the following resolution at the Annual Council meeting, “We will call each other by our first names when communicating in English both orally and in writing.” So, no more calling me President Park – just a friendly “P Brian” or simply Brian. Additionally, we will be using English whenever possible, in case there happens to be someone who is not fluent in Korean.

The second item is that we are expanding our technical groups beyond science and engineering. We now have a total of 16 technical subgroups covering (i) Science, (ii) Bio and Health, (iii) Engineering, and (iv) Art and Humanity. This allows us to have members from arts and humanities, entrepreneurship, startups, etc. Please invite your friends/colleagues in these areas to be a member of KSEA. I hope this makes KSEA a home for anyone interested in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).

I hope you enjoy reading the articles in this e-newsletter and look forward to seeing you in person at the US Korea Conference in LA, CA in December 2021.
