Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association Newsletters

November 2022

Dear fellow KSEA members:

We are proud to present the first issue of the 51st administration’s e-newsletter that we hope will keep you connected with the KSEA. We will share with you good news about successes, recognition, and new staff and also convey the sad news about the passing of members of our association. We hope that you will become involved in the upcoming events that will be announced.

Building upon the accomplishments of KSEA over the past half-century, I would like us to think strategically on how KSEA should approach its future and prepare for the next 50 years. To this end, I believe strengthening the KSEA membership (both in the number of members and in its composition) and making KSEA become a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community are critical. I plan to achieve these goals by strengthening the past and current programs and by offering new programs and activities, with which I hope that we can attract Korean American scientists and engineers across regions, generations, and cultures to KSEA, to bridge industry, entrepreneurship, and academia, and to cultivate leaders from the Korean-American community.

We have been working on a number of new programs and activities. I would like to introduce one of them, “The Distinguished Guest Series.” This Series will highlight the major accomplishments of Korean American scientists and engineers and discuss their journeys from growing up to becoming distinguished individuals in academia, industry, and entrepreneurship. This program was launched on November 9 with a big success, by featuring Professor June Huh (허준이) who received the 2022 Fields Medal, the highest honor in mathematics. The 2nd event will take place on December 15 with Prof. Keith Joung at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, the recipient of the 2022 HO-Am Prize in Medicine. All KSEA members and their families (including junior high and high school students) and friends are invited to this Distinguished Guest Series.

Enjoy reading the articles in this e-newsletter!

Young-Kee Kim

President, KSEA
