New Jersey Chapter Year End Party

The KSEA New Jersey (KSEA-NJ) Chapter hosted its 2022 year end party on Friday, December 9th, 2022 from 6 PM to 9 PM. The party was held at Rutgers University Busch Campus Student Center. There were over 40 attendees from all different age groups. Participants included KSEA-NJ undergraduates, graduates, postdocs, and professionals representing many local universities including Rutgers, Princeton, and NJIT. Everyone enjoyed each other’s company and the year’s end with food, drinks, and desserts.

After the dinner, Prof. Hyojin Kim, the KSEA-NJ Chapter President for year 2022-23, gave an introductory overview to the attendees to inform about KSEA’s history, culture, and events. As this party was advertised with a “Bring-a-friend” membership drive, Prof. Kim also informed the members on how to join KSEA and the local chapters with the membership. Along with the presentation slides, “KSEA 50 Years” history book was available for the audiences to view and read during this meeting to understand more in depth about the KSEA culture.

Shortly after Prof. Kim’s introduction on KSEA and KSEA-NJ, Dr. Kyeong Ho Yang proceeded with a 15-minute presentation on KITEE, a local chapter designed to promote start-ups and entrepreneurship among the science and engineering communities. Pictures from KITEE’s K-Startup Forum held on Thursday December 8th generated much interest on KITEE from the audience. Subsequently, a guest speaker, CEO Jehyun Park from Tubycon®, gave a brief seminar on his company’s unique and innovative urine laboratory cup product designed to reduce laboratory error and microbial cross-contamination.

Overall, the event was very successful, enriched by the conversations and discussions on how to participate in NJ chapter as a volunteer. The event closed with a raffle, with five winners. The event attracted 7 new members and 3 membership renewals.
