On the evening of December 14th, 2023, the vibrant and diverse Korean community of Bethesda, MD, came together for a memorable celebration of culture, collaboration, and camaraderie. Hosted by five prominent Korean associations – KIC-DC, KASBP-DC, KAPAL, KWiSE-NIH, and KSEA-Washington Metro Chapter – Korea Night showcased the richness of Korean heritage while fostering connections among attendees.
With around 110 enthusiastic participants in attendance, the event was a testament to the strong sense of unity and pride within the Korean community. Representative of US Senator Chris Van Hollen took the stage to present citations to the five Korean associations, recognizing their outstanding efforts in promoting cultural exchange and community engagement. This acknowledgment served as a testament to the invaluable contributions these organizations make to the social fabric of Bethesda and beyond.
In addition to the collective recognition, Delegate David Moon also bestowed citations upon the chapter presidents of the participating associations, highlighting their exemplary leadership and dedication to their respective communities. This gesture of appreciation underscored the importance of grassroots leadership in driving positive change and fostering inclusivity.
The evening was further enriched by congratulatory comments from esteemed guests, including Susan Lee, Secretary of Maryland; Chung Pak, Chief Administrative Law Judge of Maryland Office of Administrative Hearings; and SangHee Kim, Director of Health and Welfare in the Embassy of the Republic of Korea. Their presence and words of encouragement added a sense of gravitas to the event, emphasizing the significance of cross-cultural collaboration and mutual respect.
Throughout the night, Korea Night offered an opportunity for attendees to connect on a personal level, forging new friendships and strengthening existing bonds. The atmosphere was one of warmth and inclusivity, as people from all walks of life came together to celebrate their shared heritage.
