On Saturday, September 14, 2024, the SW OH KSEA chapter hosted its annual Fall picnic at Swaim Park in Montgomery, Ohio, from 12 pm – 3 pm.
The primary goals of this picnic were to:
1) inform our members about our mission and highlight our upcoming events
2) welcome new students and colleagues to the area
3) provide a space for our local chapter members to connect and get to know one another
4) encourage attendees to join KSEA.
Last year, we had 63 attendees and anticipated a similar turnout. However, we were delighted by a dramatic increase, with 137 attendees in total (101 adults and 37 children). We were especially excited to see the number of students rise from 6 last year to 17 this year, including both graduate and undergraduate students.
Attendees enjoyed a beautiful day with catered Korean food from a local restaurant, children played various games such as 무궁화 꽃이 피었습니다, and students had the opportunity to meet and engage with faculty members from different institutions. During the event, we also shared our chapter’s vision and upcoming activities in this year (see below). Overall, it was a successful networking event, offering a chance to reconnect with old members and welcome new colleagues.

Local Chapter Events in 2024-2025 Academic Year
SW OH KSEA Annual Half-day Conference; Fun with Korean
To create a fun and engaging environment where children can explore and deepen their connection to the Korean language and culture. Through consistent practice and activities/rewards programs that boost interest and motivation, we aim to help students build confidence in their Korean language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) and foster a strong sense of identity and pride in their Korean heritage.
High school/college students who are fluent in Korean and enjoy working with kids are invited to volunteer at the gatherings. This would be a great opportunity to experience the joy of contributing to the community, serve as role models, develop leadership skills, and enhance your resume.
Korean Book Project for Cincinnati/Hamilton County Library
We’ve compiled a list of recommended Korean books from our community and shared it with our contact at the Hamilton County Library. Now, we need your help to bring this project to life!
