On the first day of February, SVA KSEA hosted a guest speaker, Dr. Young Kim, and conducted a Resume Seminar designed to help students make compelling resumes and CVs. The event aimed to guide students on making well-structured resumes and to provide insights about professional branding that boosts career prospects after graduation.
Dr. Kim emphasized the significance of resumes by stating, “think of your resume as your face. It is your first impression, and the first impressions matter the most.” This analogy resonated with attendees, reinforcing that a well-structured and polished resume can set the stage for a successful career.
Throughout the event, Dr. Kim covered the essential elements of a resume. One of the elements was “use a language used on the job description”. He explained that many companies use AI systems to screen resumes before they ever reach a hiring manager. These systems often search for specific terms related to skills, qualifications, and experiences mentioned in the job posting. By using the same language as the job description, students can increase the likelihood that their resumes will pass through these automated filters and reach the hands of recruiters.
The seminar was interactive, allowing students to ask questions and receive direct feedback on their resumes. Many attendees appreciated the hands-on approach and practical advice, with some even expressing their desire for follow-up workshops focused on cover letters and interview techniques.
Given the positive feedback, there is potential for future workshops diving deeper into career preparation topics such as networking strategies, Cover Letter workshops, and interview techniques.
