The KSEA NJ Chapter 2025 New Year Party at Rutgers University was a successful gathering of scientists and engineers from multiple generations, including both established leaders and future innovators dedicated to contributing to society and humanity.
The event brought together professionals and scholars from diverse fields, such as Architecture, Civil Engineering, Supply Chain & Logistics, Product Design, Art & Animation, Computer Science, Biology, Physics, Education, Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, and representatives from ADG, Bell Labs, Merck, Rutgers, NJIT, and NJCU.
Thanks to KSEA NJ EC, Dr. Seongshik Oh from Rutgers university and Dr. Nakjung Choi from Bell Labs, we had a very productive gathering last night. The party began with an introduction to KSEA NJ by Simon Shim, the NJ chapter president, who shared who we are and what we accomplished last year. It was eye-opening for new Rutgers students to learn about the identity, presence, and dedication of Korean American scientists and engineers in the United States. This was followed by a general overview of the local chapter’s role and affiliated professional societies, allowing attendees to confirm their interests and future directions. Alongside KSEA’s presence, recent initiatives like YouTube channels (Tell a story), KSEA official and KSEA NJ, were shared with members’ activities, including meet and greet with NJ members, KASSTA workshop, Logistics and Supply Chain Cooperation, local chapter picnic, META visit, UKC, Northeast Conference, and NMSC in various fields. It is a source of pride to find such momentum.
The program featured two highlight talks: one on the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology by Dr. Seongshik Oh from Rutgers University, and another on NOKIA Bell Labs by Dr. Nakjung Choi. In 2025, the United Nations proclaimed it the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, recognizing 100 years since the initial development of quantum mechanics and the importance of quantum science and the need for wider awareness of its past and future impact. The second talk about NOKIA Bell Labs was presented by Dr. Choi, the Department Head of Mobile Network Systems. In 2024, he was awarded the Thomas Edison Patent Award for his team’s dedication, hard work, and innovative spirit in Radio Access Network (RAN) virtualization. This is a great accomplishment for the KSEA community. In the NJ State level, we heard triumph news that Bell Labs scientists and engineers received a total of 10 Nobel Prizes along with other prestigious awards, including OSCAR and Emmy awards.
During the party, we took the time to introduce ourselves. All current members, families, and new students had a moment to elevate themselves to the next level and set their goals higher to Year 2025. After the main program, we enjoyed a Korean buffet and celebrated the New Year 2025, the “Year of the Snake,” wishing everyone the best of health, luck, and success.
2025년 KSEA NJ 챕터 새해 파티는 Rutgers University에서 성공적으로 개최되었으며, 여러 세대의 과학자와 엔지니어들이 모여 사회와 인류에 기여하는데 헌신하는 기존 리더와 미래 혁신가들이 함께 했습니다.
이 행사는 건축, 토목 공학, 공급망 및 물류, 제품 디자인, 예술 및 애니메이션, 컴퓨터 과학, 생물학, 물리학, 교육, 신경 과학, 생의학 공학 등 다양한 분야의 전문가와 학자들을 한자리에 모았습니다. ADG, Bell Labs, Merck, Rutgers, NJIT, NJCU의 대표들도 참석했습니다.
