Korea Night 2025

The Association of Korean Physicists in America (AKPA) hosted “Korea Night” in collaboration with the Korean Physical Society (KPS) at the Hilton Anaheim Hotel on Wednesday, March 12. The main objectives of the event were to foster international connections and collaborations among Korean physicists and to promote mentor-mentee relationships across different career stages.

The year 2025 has been designated as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of quantum mechanics. In line with this, the annual American Physical Society (APS) meeting was held in a special, expanded format under the title “APS Global Physics Summit.” Reflecting this theme, Korea Night was also organized in a special format, featuring both a talk and a trivia challenge on quantum physics.

We had an excellent turnout of approximately 90 participants, far exceeding the number of RSVPs received. We were especially pleased to see strong participation from Ph.D. students and postdoctoral researchers. The event began at 6:30 PM, following the conclusion of the official APS program for the day, with attendees mingling over light refreshments and beverages.

Opening remarks were delivered by Prof. Harold Kim (Georgia Institute of Technology; AKPA President) and Prof. Jin-Hee Yoon (Inha University; KPS President). Prof. Yonuk Chong of Sungkyunkwan University gave a special talk titled “Superconducting Quantum Computing in SKKU.” The talk was followed by a quantum trivia contest, which tested attendees’ knowledge of the development and key figures in quantum mechanics. The top three contestants received monetary prizes.

We extend our sincere thanks to all who attended and contributed to the success of the event, and to KPS and KSEA (Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association) for their generous financial support.
