The annual KAMS gathering serves as a key networking and collaboration platform for Korean materials scientists and engineers in the U.S. and Korea. Since around 1994, this event has been traditionally held during the TMS (The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society) annual meeting, leveraging TMS’s prominence as one of the oldest materials research societies in the U.S. This year’s KAMS gathering took place during the 154th TMS Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, NV, with 41 attendees—an increase from the previous year’s 34. Participants were primarily from universities, along with attendees from national labs and industry (see attachment). Notable participants included Prof. Yongho Sohn (University of Central Florida), the 52nd KSEA President, and Prof. Young Keun Kim (Korea University), President of KIM+ (The Korean Institute of Metals and Materials, 대한금속∙재료학회). The event began with a dinner, featuring welcoming remarks from the KAMS President and the 52nd KSEA President, followed by a congratulatory message from the President of KIM. The KAMS President also provided an overview of KSEA and the upcoming US-Korea Conference (UKC) 2026, scheduled for August 2025 in Atlanta, GA, encouraging participation. Throughout the evening, attendees engaged in informal discussions on topics such as the research funding landscape in the U.S. and Korea and strategies to strengthen cross-border collaboration.
