Reported by Sungeun Choi (Chapter President)
On the evening of Friday, June 6, 2025, the KSEA New York Metropolitan Chapter held its annual General Meeting at Hudson Manor in Fort Lee, New Jersey. This event marked the conclusion of the 49th administration and included elections for the incoming leadership team.
In previous years, the General Meeting was typically held in the afternoon following a morning picnic. However, this format had two major drawbacks: there was no contingency plan for rain during the outdoor picnic, and many members would leave after the picnic, resulting in low attendance at the meeting. To address these issues and to more effectively conduct a membership drive, this year’s event combined the picnic and the General Meeting into a single indoor gathering at a clean, well-equipped venue with a podium and catered Korean buffet.
A total of 50 people attended, including 40 regular members and 10 new members who registered on-site. Most attendees were councilors and NYKB members, with a few returning former members and even two families who brought infants, creating a warm, family-friendly atmosphere.
Dinner began at 5:30 PM as attendees arrived, and the official meeting commenced at 7:00 PM. After approving the agenda and minutes, the chapter reviewed the past year’s events, followed by the annual financial and audit reports. Elections were then held for the next administration, resulting in the following appointments:
- President: Dr. Hyunah Cho
- Vice President 1: Dr. Seoungyeol Yoo
- Vice President 2: Dr. HeaYeon Lee
- Auditors: Dr. Byungchan Kim and Dr. Min Sul Kang
- Councilors: Kevin Kim, Dr. Jong-Deok Choi, Dr. Junyong Choi, Dr. Sae Woong Park (2025–2028), and Dr. Ju-Hyun Lee (2025–2026)
This annual event, which also served as a membership drive, was a great success. The family-friendly setting encouraged natural interactions among members, both old and new. Unlike previous years, this year’s audit report was the result of detailed analysis through committee meetings and included constructive critiques. It was printed and distributed to councilors in hard copy.
Lively discussions were held on a wide range of topics, including strategies for membership registration and engagement, which are expected to greatly benefit the incoming administration.
The event was a huge success with positive feedback, bringing old members back and connecting passionate new members who want to be more involved. The momentum built from this event will continue to strengthen the KSEA NY Metropolitan Chapter and boost participation in upcoming events such as YSN (Young Scientists’ Night), KMSO (KSEA Math and Science Olympiad), NRC (North Regional Conference), UKC (US-Korea Conference), and more.
