Research seminar on hot topics: Biomechanical understanding of golf swing

The research seminar entitled Biomechanical Understanding of Golf Swing was a great success with 30 attendees from the Southwest area in Michigan. To make this seminar more meaningful, our chapter invited Dr. Young-Hoo Kwon from Texas Woman’s University, a leading scholar in the field of golf biomechanics. Dr. Kwon explained how to improve golf swing based on the biomechanical principles of golf swing and captivated the attendees by sharing biomechanical data obtained from professional PGA and LPGA golfers. Following the research seminar, attendees enjoyed a round of golf.

The event was carefully designed to provide a good mix of professional networking and recreational activities. A delicious lunch was prepared by volunteers, featuring all attendees’ favorite Korean cuisine styles. From lunch to a round of golf, all attendees had a great time socializing, sharing their stories and experiences, and discussing the research topic in more depth. This event also provided a platform to recognize newly appointed key personnel. Chanjin Park, the KSEA Michigan Chapter Student Manager at Western Michigan University, was honored for his contributions to facilitating the event. He will work with our chapter to promote KSEA, particularly at Western Michigan University, and help organize our chapter’s future events.

The KSEA Michigan Chapter has been primarily operated by YG members at University of Michigan, although regular members are located throughout the state. Previous KSEA Michigan Chapter events have mostly been undergraduate-level recreational activities. Thus, the Michigan Chapter had a pressing need to expand its scopes to include professionals, including university professors and industry researchers from across the state. This event was a great start to achieving the new goals and revitalizing the KSEA Michigan Chapter.

Overall, the research seminar, which included a round of golf, was a productive and memorable event that helped strengthen relationships with community members in the Southwest Michigan region. This event was also a great opportunity to promote KSEA to the public and laid a solid foundation for future events, promising expanded participation and collaboration between regular and YG members within the KSEA Michigan Chapter. Lastly, our chapter would like to express our deepest gratitude to KSEA headquarters for allowing us to host this event and for providing their financial support for the event.
